Software Ecosystems Risks

چکیده
Software ecosystems is a new concept in the software arena that emphasizes the inter-networked activities that take place amongst entities during software development and operation. The core of this approach is building the application around shared platforms that are open to every party inside and outside an organizational boundary. This approach has been adopted by software companies in response to the increasing complexity of customer demands and recent trends in global software development, fuelled by the tremendous growth of internet applications. Despite its benefits, companies making the transition to the software ecosystem paradigm face new challenges in their software process activities. This paper identifies some risks inherent to software ecosystems.

متن کاملBuilding Software Ecosystems from a Reuse Perspective
Software Ecosystems (SECOs) involve various stakeholders interacting with a shared market for software and services, exchanging information, resources and artifacts within a common technological platform. In this context, well-known software reuse approaches such as Component-Based Development (CBD) and Software Product Lines (SPL) can lead companies to SECOs. This transition depends on decisio...

growing research literature, OSS has garnered much support in the software community. Indeed, from the early days of GNU software, to X Window System, to Linux and its utilities, and more recently the Apache Software Project, OSS has changed the way software is developed and used. As the deployment of OSS increases, the issue of its quality with respect to its stakeholders arises. We contend th...
متن کاملUsing i* to Represent OSS Ecosystems for Risk Assessment
Open Source Software (OSS) is a strategic asset for organisations thanks to its short time-to-market, the opportunity for a reduced development effort and total cost of ownership, and its customization capabilities. OSS-based solutions include projects that are developed and co-evolve within the same organisation, OSS communities, companies, and regulatory bodies, forming an articulated strateg...
متن کاملRelationship between increases in global mean temperature and impacts on ecosystems, food production, water and socio-economic systems
This paper attempts to associate different levels of global mean surface temperature increase and/or sea level rise with specific impacts and risks for species, ecosystems, agriculture, water and socio-economic damages compared to pre-industrial global mean temperature. It is found that that the risks arising from projected human induced climate change increase significantly and systematically ...
